News: EU Eco-Design lighting regulations

The Association of Lighting Designers have been working hard honing the draft Eco-Design lighting regulations to be submitted to the EU through the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Their main outstanding concerns are:

  • The requirement for a ‘standby power’ of 0.5W or less when not emitting light.
  • Efficiency levels will not be achievable by very high output white LED fixtures.
  • Technical issues with the EU definition of additive colour mixing sources.
  • Specific lamp bases still in use which were not included in the revised rules.
